About Horizon: Solar Investment Fund

Horizon is a solar energy investment fund with a purpose: to make solar panels accessible to more families in Puerto Rico, while generating solid returns for those who invest with us.

Our mission

To close the gap between capital and families who want clean energy. We subsidize part of each household’s solar system monthly payment so the renewable energy transition is easier to sustain month after month.

Our vision

A future where every family can produce its own solar energy, backed by an investment model that benefits everyone: households, investors, and the planet.

Our thesis: capital that produces energy and returns

Horizon was born from a simple but powerful observation: the transition to solar energy is moving slower than it should, not for lack of technology or willingness, but because of a financial barrier. The monthly payment of a solar system leaves out thousands of families who, ironically, are the ones who would benefit most from savings on their electric bill. At the same time, there is capital looking for sustainable, purpose-driven returns. Our mission is to connect both worlds.

To achieve this, we do not rely on a single source of return. Our investors’ capital is diversified across an active portfolio that includes algorithmic trading, a proprietary real estate portfolio, positions in stocks and markets, and stakes in selected businesses. That diversification is deliberate: it allows us to manage risk, smooth out volatility, and sustain both investor dividends and the subsidy we deliver to families.

The solar subsidy is the heart of our purpose, but it is not the only piece. It is precisely because the portfolio is diversified that we can maintain a robust subsidy program over time, instead of depending on the ups and downs of a single market. That is the balance Horizon pursues: real impact and financial discipline, together.

Why Puerto Rico, and why now

Puerto Rico is one of the most attractive residential solar energy markets in the world, and that is no accident. Electricity on the island is among the most expensive in the entire United States, which makes the savings generated by a solar system substantial from the very first month. On top of that, there is abundant and consistent solar radiation throughout the year, which maximizes panel production.

But there is a factor that goes beyond money: resilience. After years of hurricanes and prolonged blackouts, Puerto Rican families know what it means to be without electricity for days or weeks. A solar system with battery storage turns every home into a small power plant capable of running when the grid fails. For us, democratizing access to that energy security is just as important as the financial return.

Frequently asked questions about Horizon

Does Horizon handle the solar panels?

Not directly. Horizon is the fund that provides the subsidy and manages the investment. The sale of the equipment is carried out by authorized solar consultants, certified professionals with whom families work at every step of the process.

What makes Horizon different from a traditional solar loan?

With a traditional solar loan or financing, the family pays the full monthly payment on its own. Horizon, on the other hand, subsidizes part of that monthly payment (between 25% and 75% based on the risk profile), reducing what the family pays each month. It is a model of purpose-driven capital, not a debt product.

Is the social impact real or just marketing?

It is the core of the model. Every family that joins lowers its electric bill, gains resilience against blackouts, and reduces its carbon footprint. We measure our impact by families supported and by the percentage of the monthly payment we manage to subsidize.
